My Name is Lee Bullivant

I am a documentary, portrait and live events photographer based in the UK, often exploring themes of identity, memory, service, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Through my lens, I aim to create images that are not only visually striking but also emotionally resonant—images that hold space for the stories and experiences of those I photograph. My clients include The Royal Hospital Chelsea, The British Army, Hacienda Clubland, Mambo and Soundwave Festival.

Photography came into my life as both a creative outlet and a powerful form of communication. Before I became a photographer, I served with the 1st Battalion, The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire from 1999 to 2005. That experience shaped me deeply—not only in how I see the world but also in how I connect with people. I understand what it means to carry memories, to wear history in your expression, and to live with the weight of things unsaid. That understanding forms the foundation of my work, especially when photographing veterans or individuals from underrepresented communities.

With being a former serving soldier, I have maintained connections with different veterans organisations outside of the military, such as The Royal British Legion, The 1st Battalion and Hartlepool Veterans Breakfast Club. Through my background, I have been given privileged, behind-the-scenes access to photograph and document the day-to-day lives of The Chelsea Pensioners, which is a current, long-term project.

The South Gare Fisherman's Huts Association is another group I am working with long term, which looks at the lives of the fishermen and the rich history behind South Gare.

What ties all my work together is a genuine respect for people. I do not just take pictures—I build relationships. I spend time with my subjects, listen to their stories, and aim to represent them with authenticity and care. I believe the best portraits happen when trust exists between photographer and subject, and I work hard to create that space in every shoot.

I am interested in commissions where I can capture the diversity, character, and dignity of people and communities, creating a respectful and lasting visual archive that speaks to shared values and individual journeys. I am also passionate about live events and music, capturing the fleeting, ecstatic and dynamic moments that define live performance, through video and photography.

My goal as an artist is to create work that matters—work that documents, honours, and preserves.
